A 25-year-old dancer, Kulwinder Kaur, was shot dead Saturday night at a marriage function in Bathinda after she refused to dance with a few persons who were drunk. Police have recovered the weapons used in the incident and booked four persons who are yet to be arrested. The police identified the suspects with the help of a two-and-a-half-minute video clipping of the incident, which has since gone viral. Among the four suspects are local SAD leader Lucky Goyal and his friend Sanjay Goyal. Two others are yet to be identified. Lucky’s father Vijay Goyal is a former SAD councillor.
Police have recovered a 0.32 bore revolver and 0.12 gun belonging to Sanjay Goyal from the venue.
Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma said, “Both weapons belonged to Sanjay Goyal, but Lucky was holding the 0.32 bore revolver, as per the video clipping which we have seen. Lucky fired in the air while trying to go on stage. Sanjay Goyal was also near the stage holding his 0.12 gun. Both weapons have been recovered and we will arrest the culprits soon.”
Kulwinder was hit with the bullet allegedly fired by Lucky and died on the spot. Both Lucky and Sanjay had come to attend the marriage of their friend Varun Kumar.
According to the FIR lodged by Kulwinder’s husband Rajinder Singh, a few drunk persons were trying to come on stage and dance with the girls while those managing the stage tried to stop them. Later, one of them shot at Kulwinder.
“Arms are not allowed in marriages, but it is the responsibility of the host to see no one brings in arms. However, our focus is on Lucky and Sanjay as of now.”
Meanwhile, various orchestra groups staged a dharna outside the civil hospital here Sunday demanding the arrest of culprits.
