TMZ is reporting that police have confirmed rapper Mac Miller passed away at 26 years of age. Initial reports indicate that it may have been an apparent overdose. Miller was found at noon on Friday after someone placed a 911 call from Miller's home.
Miller's rap career began at the age of fourteen. While working on his mixtape K.I.D.S., he grabbed the attention of producer Benjy Grinberg. Miller's career hit a notable upturn in 2010 when he sold out every venue in his first tour.
In 2013, the rapper was featured in MTV2's reality documentary series, Mac Miller & The Most Dope Family, which documented his life and process in creating his second studio album, Watching Movies with the Sound Off.
A little over a year later, Miller signed a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records for $10 million, making his third album, GO:OD AM his first release with a major label. His fourth and fifth studio albums, The Divine Feminine and Swimming reached No. 1 and No. 3 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums respectively.
Growing up in a community where many kids were "into some street stuff," Miller was committed to living his life on his terms.
A consummate perfectionist, Miller told Vulture that even after the stellar performance, he would still pick apart the show in his head for hours, looking for opportunities to improve.
