10 Wild 'Westworld' Season 2 Theories That Have Us Re-Thinking Everything

We have had to patiently sit by our TVs since 2016 waiting for more Westworld, and I, for one, would like to return to the park and visit our favorite hosts. 

Before we bring ourselves back online, there are some questions we all seem to have regarding what the heck is going on, and there are some superb fan theories to help us out. 

Warning: spoilers ahead! 

1. Dr. Ford is alive. 

Okay. Yes, Dolores shot him in the back of the head at the end of Season 1. We know this. 

However, one theory suggests that Dr. Ford built a robot version of himself, and therefore he will live on despite human Robert being dead. 

One theory suggests that Robert actually built a robot version of himself and sent him out to the party to be killed instead.

One Redditor explained it was all in Ford's handshake with Bernard stating, "His hands looked very odd when he shook hands with Bernard. Weird host hands were a hallmark of the hosts in the 1973 movie."

2. Maeve is actually free. 

We were all under the impression that Maeve had broken free from her code and was attempting to escape all on her own accord. 

However, that idea was put to bed when Bernard revealed to her that Dr. Ford had actually programmed her to escape. 

Since Maeve didn't end up leaving, the belief is that she made her own choice to go back and look for her daughter through her own free will.  

Showrunner Jonathan Nolan discussed Maeve's decision to go back, saying, "For me, it’s a very emotional moment in the episode because you’re seeing the first free will."

3. The unfinished hosts are part of an army.  

This theory arose after the Super Bowl trailer dropped, and seems to hold up after the most recent promo for the show, as we see the white robotic beings kicking butt and taking names. 

4. The Man in Black is on a mission to destroy the entire park. 

In the latest trailer, we hear him say, "I'm gonna burn this whole thing to the ground."

The real question is: Why?

Perhaps he doesn't agree with his company's true motivations when it comes to the park, and in order to keep them from getting whatever they want, he must tear it all down

5. Everyone is a host.

This theory would be the plot twist of all plot twists, and we're not sure we'd be able to deal. 

It eludes to the entire staff at Westworld being robots and not humans, after all. 

This same theory also suggests that humans can transfer their consciousness into a robot, and it's their robot selves that actually enter the park.  

Now my brain is starting to hurt, and I don't know what's happening. 

6. The present day is 2052. 

Even though time seems to jump forward and back, in the Season 1 finale, we saw a shot of some security footage that appeared to show a date in the top left corner. 

Are any of us surprised that it takes place in the future? The answer is no. 

7. We might be learning more about William and Logan's lives.

Some eagle eyes spotted Logan in the background of a fancy party in the trailer that was released during the Super Bowl. 

This gives us reason to believe that we're going to find out about what he's like outside the park, although we're sure he's not much different. 

8. One fan believes that William actually brings Dolores out into the real world. 

This. This we definitely want to see. 

Although we know that she ends up right back at the park, watching her interact with modern day peeps would be crazy interesting. 

We even see Dolores dressed in modern clothing in a recent trailer for the new season.  

We're pretty sure that if she makes it to the mainland after this rampage, she won't be dressing that pretty. Therefore, this must be a flashback.

9. Not only is there more than one park, but there are actually six.  

Clues left in the Super Bowl trailer led fans to the site for Delos Destinations, the company that owns the park. 

If you do a little digging and click on "Experience," it leads you to a page that shows six parks, although only Westworld is accessible. Now we're getting excited.

While we're not sure what the themes of each of these parks are, we've been teased that one of them will be ShogunWorld. 

At the end of last season, Maeve passed through a group of Samurai hosts, and in the newest trailer, we actually see her in that world. 

10. Westworld is on an island.

It's true — we don't necessarily know where exactly the park or parks are located, but one theory has us believing that they're actually on a secluded island. 

This makes sense when you think about how often the people that work at the park use the term "Mainland."

How true are any of these theories? We'll have to tune in and find out.

The showrunners have admitted that they'll be planting fake theories to screw with viewers. Where's the fun in that?!
