Meryl Streep Is Joining The Cast Of 'Big Little Lies,' And Her Character Is Quite Unexpected

If you haven't yet seen Season 1 of Big Little Lies, I won't ruin any major plot secrets for you. What I WILL do, however, is strongly suggest that you watch it before Big Little Lies Season 2 gets here. 

Why? Well, just when we thought that the show couldn't possibly get any better, it was announced that Meryl Streep will be joining the cast. The role she's playing might surprise you, but regardless, the internet is super pumped about the announcement. 

Both HBO and Reese Witherspoon welcomed Meryl to the cast via social media, and we then discovered who she would be playing. 

Meryl will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) aka Celeste's (Nicole Kidman's) abusive husband. 

What kind of character will Mary be? An understanding, empathetic one or a mother out for revenge? 

We have yet to find out, but regardless, Twitter was extremely moved by the announcement. 

The consensus was that Meryl will bring only phenomenal things to Season 2.

Some people even suggested she might win a Nobel Prize for the role. 

Honestly, it's Meryl Streep we're talking about, so anything could happen.

Considering how dramatic Season 1 was without Meryl, we can only imagine what this season will bring.
