When it comes to diversity in the beauty industry, Rihanna's Fenty line has made a point in addressing it with a wide-ranging selection of foundation colors.
But as we know, diversity is not only about skin tone but also about gender and other considerations. And recently, one person was unimpressed with the lack of trans people associated with Fenty Beauty.
Twitter user @lbertootero decided to call out Rihanna on the lack of trans models in her latest Fenty campaign.
In a Twitter DM, @lbertootero congratulated Rihanna on Fenty's new campaign video.
He then commented on the absence of trans women, suggesting she invite them to Fenty's next shoot.

Rihanna probably gets a trillion Twitter DMs every day.
And she likely doesn't have time to respond to the vast majority of them.
However, this particular topic promoted a long, thoughtful explanation from the beauty icon.

"I don't think it's fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool!"
In her response, Rihanna explains how she refuses to do trans-specific castings because doesn't believe in using diversity as convenient marketing tool.
She also notes that not all trans women/men are comfortable revealing that part of themselves, and that it's really none of her business whether a model is trans or not trans.

And @lbertootero was more than satisfied with her response.
Based on the Fenty ads we've seen, Rihanna appears to be doing more for diversity than most other beauty brands.
However, we should note that all of her models are both young and sample size.
Still, Rihanna created the line “so that women everywhere would be included," and considering it's been just a few short months since its launch, we think Fenty is (at the very least) off to a good start.
