This Couple Met In Preschool And Got Married 20 Years Later, And It's Making Us Ugly Cry
"Laura and I met in preschool," recalls Matt Grodsky. "One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my pre-school class, declaring that I would marry her someday."
It's the sort of thing preschoolers say every day, along with "Can I have more juice?" and "My shoe is untied." But 20 years later, Matt made his youthful declaration come true.
In fact, it did seem like a great match right from the start.
"As kids, Laura taught me how to ride the swings, draw rolling hills, and the 'right way' to properly eat string cheese," he remembers. "We have fond memories of playing hide-and-go-seek, chasing after each other on the playground, and mischievously staying up during nap time."
Is there any couple that will make you believe in fate more than Matt and Laura?
They sure seemed destined to be together. Matt can even remember going to Laura's third birthday party, where she "was more interested in her kazoo than her presents."
"Although she’s grown to be much more interested in her birthday presents in her ripe old age," Matt says...
"She continues to not only be a selfless, easy going person, but she remains more interested in the little things in life, which is one of the many reasons why I think she’s wonderful."
It probably didn't always seem fated to Matt and Laura because their preschool romance was short-lived.
"Eventually, we lost touch upon entering our Elementary School days, and for the next seven years, our family's annual Christmas cards was the only way we ever saw each other's faces," Matt says.
When high school came along, Matt and Laura managed to reconnect through a mutual friend. The attraction was instant and fierce.
"Within two weeks, we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend," Matt says. "We continued to date through out all of high school, even though we went to different schools. We even stuck together long-distance while attending colleges in different states."
Matt and Laura refused to repeat those few years of separation.
"We remained a resilient couple until May 23rd, 2015 when I decided to stay true to my preschool pledge and make Laura my wife," Matt says. "I proposed to her at the place it all began... our preschool classroom."
"I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day," Matt says.
Can you get any more adorable than that? Talk about #relationshipgoals, amirite?
No surprise, when they shared their story online, the internet was a blubbering mess.
I don't know if that's what they were going for, but they jerked every last tear they could, and with good reason. What a story.
And it looks like a bright, bright future for Matt and Laura.
It doesn't look like they'll ever be apart again. They've earned their happily ever after.
