Company Gives Six Extra Vacation Days For Employees Who Don't Smoke

A marketing firm in Japan has recently granted their employees who do not smoke six extra paid vacation days a year to make up for the time that their coworkers spent on smoke breaks.
It was a decision that Piala made after receiving a complaint in the company suggestion box.

The amount of time that people were spending on smoking brakes was starting to become a problem for some.

Because the firm was on the 29th floor, anyone wanting to take a smoke break had to go all the way down, making each trip 15 minutes or more.

Mr. Matsushma, a spokesperson for the company, said, "Our CEO saw the comment and agreed, so we are giving non-smokers some extra time off to compensate."

The hope is that employees who don't smoke will feel like they are being treated more fairly, and those who do smoke may be encouraged to quit.
