Top 3 comebacks by Indian players in Test cricket

Top 3 comebacks by Indian players in Test cricket
The test cricket is considered as the ultimate and most prestigious form of the game. And representing the national side of the country is every cricketer’s pride and dream. Many Indian players have made some great achievements right from the starting of their careers in Test matches. But there have been players who have made some incredible comebacks after being dropped. The most recent example of a comeback is Harbhajan Singh. The spinner still needs to play a match after being named in the Indian squad. Here are top 3 three players who emerged as fighters and made their way back in the Indian side.

Zaheer Khan
The Indian team has always felt shortage of good fast bowlers. In spinners’ dominated team, Zaheer Khan was one such exception who rose to fame through his sheer pace and toe-crunching yorkers. He struggled with form and fitness in the 2004-05 season and was dropped from the Indian Test team. But the fast bowler had different plans despite facing an exclusion from the team. He played exceptionally well for Worcestershire in county cricket in England and claimed his return back into the Indian team through an impressive performance. Zaheer made a successful comeback in 2006 to pick eight more five-five wicket hauls in Test cricket. He was also an important weapon in the MS-Dhoni led team that achieved the No.1 ranking in Test cricket in 2009.

Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly has been one of India’s most successful captains. He has been regarded as the man who has set up a foundation of the team of this new era.But the lowest point of his remarkable career came when Ganguly was involved in a major fall-out with coach Greg Chappell during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in 2005.He was sacked as the Indian captain and eventually removed from the team. However, for a man who had waited for almost four years after being dropped for the first time in 1992, this was just another opportunity to prove his worth. After some blistering performances in domestic cricket, Ganguly fought his way back to the Indian team for the first Test against South Africa in 2006.His comeback involved his maiden double-century against Pakistan and he also emerged as the second highest run-getter in Tests in 2007.

Sachin Tendulkar
The “God of Cricket” is known for his sheer dedication and commitment towards the game. During the first half of his career, Sachin Tendulkar did not miss a single Test match for almost 12 years. Then came the moment that proved the mortality of the great man. Tendulkar suffered a serious tennis elbow injury in early 2004 which threatened to cut short his career. The pain owing to the injury was so acute that the batsman was unable to even grip his bat, prompting the media to run headlines like “Endulkar”. But Tendulkar remained focused on a comeback and worked intensely on his fitness. Eventually, Tendulkar made a return to Test cricket scoring his 35th Test century after a gap of more than a year against Sri Lanka in 2005.
