Cricketers have more often landed themselves into trouble because of alcohol. From punching an opponent to missing crucial team meetings, there is no end to such rowdy behavior of the players. Such incidents have led to bans and fines by the respective cricket boards. Here is the list of ten cricketers who landed themselves in trouble because of alcoholic issues.
JAMES FAULKNER
James Faulkner, the Australian all-rounder, was recently suspended for four international matches by Cricket Australia for driving under the influence of Alcohol. While playing for Lancashire, Faulkner crashed his car after a night out drinking in Manchester with his Tasmania teammate Tim Paine and was found to have been more than twice over the legal blood alcohol limit. The board acted swiftly under the board’s code of conduct to suspend the all-rounder. He was also warned for his behavior in the near future.
DAVID WARNER
He punched Joe Root after being under the influence of alcohol in 2013. The Australian opener thought that Root was making fun of Muslim’s especially Hashim Amla, which led to the incident at one of the bars. Warner was dropped for Australia’s campaign in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy following the attack on an England cricketer. He later apologized for his actions and promised to control his temper in the future. The player was even blasted from former Australian players.

Apart from this, he almost ended his life because of a brawl in 2013. Ryder was in a critical condition at Christchurch Hospital after being assaulted outside the Aikman’s Bar in Merivale, Christchurch. He was in an induced coma for 56 hours before recovering.

Monty Panesar became England’s number one spinner following Ashley Giles’ retirement but his drinking habits led to his downfall. He was fined for urinating in public near the Shooshh Club at King’s Road Arches, Brighton, on 5 August 2013. According to the Sun newspaper, Panesar was told to leave the club because he was harassing women, and he later urinated from the promenade above the venue on to bouncers standing below. He played his last international match in 2013 and it looks that his career is almost over.

I am determined to bounce back from this situation and I regret my actions off the field. I look forward to getting back to my county to begin pre-season,’ he had said after being sent home by the management.
