Bruce Lee director in more trouble as film’s writer says his script was not used
A furious Kona Venkat is currently consulting a High Court advocate about filing a defamation case against director Srinu Vaitla. “He is angry about the makers crediting his name to the story of Bruce Lee. His original script was completely changed. He is filing the case as they have given his name in the credits but haven’t used his story. He may file a defamation case for Rs 10 crore and demand a public apology from Srinu,” said a source.
Bruce Lee, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, has been one of the biggest disappointments of the year so far. Made on a budget exceeding `60 crore, the film is struggling to recover the amount invested.
Also, it’s extremely rare in Telugu cinema that a writer has filed a case against the makers of a film for using his or her name but not the script. Sources say, Kona Venkat would have been happier if they hadn’t given him credit. “He also wants to upload the original script online. Because he wants the public and fans to know the differences between the original script and the film’s story,” adds the source.
Bruce Lee producer D.V.V. Danayya, too, might come forward to support Kona Venkat because he, too, received a bound script of the original story. For Srinu Vaitla meanwhile, it has been a troublesome month — with wife Roopa too accusing him of harassment. The police however are not pursuing investigations into the case as the couple have agreed for counselling.
